Early Times Report Jammu, May 17: Formed to ease a particular person, Dr R D Sharma, vice chancellor University of Jammu, has constituted a committee of Deans of various departments to review 'controversial' eligibility for the post of assistant professor for Remote Sensing and GIS. Sources said that the committee constituted by the Vice Chancellor would review the eligibility, and it is expected that some of the deans would oppose the same, in meeting which is likely to be held on Monday. "Earlier, the eligibility was fixed focusing on 'special' candidate", sources said, adding that the eligibility was fixed according to courses done the blue eyed candidate. "Backed by some influential faculty members who are very close the VC, an aspirant, having Master degree in Remote Sensing and GIS, likely to be benefited by the review meeting", sources alleged and added that the VC was 'forcing' some deans to give nod the eligibility. Moreover, during the tenure of Prof MPS Ishar, as VC JU, in violation of University Grant Commission (UGC) norms, for the post of Assistant Professor, eligibility criteria had been set as PG Diploma in Remote Sensing instead of Master Degree in subject. University of Jammu had advertised 22 posts of Assistant Professors for various departments including Remote Sensing and GIS and applicants were asked to submit forms before August, 17, 2014. "In the list, two posts of Assistant Professors in Department of Remote Sensing and GIS were also shown but when it comes the eligibility criteria required for filling the application forms, surprisingly, PG diploma in Remote Sensing was sought as eligibility criteria", said a professor, seeking not be named. "Though the department in Jammu University had been opened nearly six years back but there are numerous students across country, who have done Master Degree in Remote Sensing and also Ph.D, but it has become a culture in University to adjust some blue-eyed of Professors", he alleged. He said that the process for recruitment in Remote Sensing was put held, following media reports on the issue. "Like other decisions of his predecessor, Prof RD Sharma is also reviewing the eligibility", they added. |
