Finally Dental College conducts MDS exams | ET Impact | | Early Times Report
Srinagar, May 17: The Government Dental College Srinagar is finally conducting the exams of Masters of Dental Sciences (MDS) students which were earlier being delayed by the college authorities due to unknown reasons. The students had been alleging that their career is at stake and Early Times had carried a detailed story in this regard onMarch 5 this year. The premier Dental Sciences Institution of State has been facing a rot as the institute is in a mess. The post graduate degree in dentistry (MDS) is a 3 year course but its taking 4 years for students to complete this course due to apathy of the officials at Government Dental College and Hospital Srinagar. The Dental College Srinagar has become a cesspool of corruption and authorities have been mute spectators all the years. As per details 12 students are selected every year to pursue Masters in Dental Science (MDS) in the sole government dental institute of the state. The selections are directly made by the Board of Professional Entrance Examinations (BOPEE) through Post-Graduate Entrance Test (PGET) every year along with the MD/MS aspirants for various medical colleges in J&K. Common notifications are issued by BOPEE for examination, result, counseling, admission and finally joining for MD/MS courses a well. The selected candidates are supposed to confirm their admissions and ensure their joining before 31st May every year as per Supreme Court guidelines. The stipulated duration for the course is three years within which the entire process of examination and results has to be completed. Unfortunately, it has become a routine affair for the Dental College Srinagar to deliberately delay the exams of the students pursuing their MDS course which is sheer injustice and their counterparts on the other hand in the Government Medical College complete their degrees within the stipulated time. The MDS 2011 batch which was scheduled to complete its degree by May 2014, completed their degree in January 2015. "The reason for the delay in conducting the MDS examination is best known to Principal, Government Dental College, Srinagar and concerned university authorities. This delay in the examination has caused mental agony and depression amongst the students besides wasting their precious time. But after the story was carried in Early Times about the mismanagement and unnecessary postponement of MDS exams the college authorities started taking this issue seriously and now the exams have begun and the students have already appeared in three papers of MDS exam " said an MDS student without disclosing his name. Pertinently the Government Dental College & Hospital Srinagar in recent past has remained in news as the top officials of the college were indicted by the State Vigilance Organisation (SVO) for causing loss amounting to several lakhs of rupees to the state exchequer as they had purchased several dental equipments at exorbitant rates. |
