| Cop turns 'goon', demands money from travelers | | Beats up people after being denied money | | Asif Iqbal Naik Early Times Report JAMMU, May 17: A traffic cop posted at Nagrota check post to manage the traffic in order to collect the money from the poor travelers has been accused of hitting the vehicles with sticks and iron rods while causing damage to the vehicles in case the money is denied to him by the vehicle owners. As per the details available with 'Early Times', in one such fresh incident involving Arjun Kumar son of Daulat Ram resident of Kishtwar, the traffic cop on duty damaged his vehicle bearing Registration No. JK06-3181 while he was on its way to Kishtwar along with his ailing and aged father. Arjun said that after getting discharge of his father from the hospital, he along with his brother in law started journey towards Kishtwar on Saturday at around 2 AM, adding that at Nagrota, the traffic cop signaled to stop his vehicle. He said that after noticing traffic cop signal, he stopped his vehicle few meters away from a place where traffic cop signaled him to stop his vehicle. Arjun said that after parking his vehicle, he approached the traffic cop who till then reached near his vehicle, added that on inquiry, the traffic cop demanded Rs. 1000 from him for allowing him to proceed for Kishtwar. He said that on refusing to pay money to the erring cop, he (Traffic cop) smashed the front windowpanes of his vehicle. He said that after having horrific experience, he clicked the photographs of the traffic cop as he was without name plate. He said that he and his father were shocked over the act of traffic cop and feels ashamed from the brutal act of the police personal on duty. When the matter was brought into the notice of DIG Traffic Jammu, Ashkoor Wani he immediately ordered for an inquiry and sent the photographs of traffic cop on duty as well as the damaged vehicle to SSP Traffic for identification and action against him. "We have identified the traffic cop on the bases of photographs--- we will not allow any such shameful act committed by the erring cop on duty" said Ashkoor Wani, added that he had issued direction for his immediate suspension and also order an inquiry. |
