| Lawmaker's doctor son breaks law, bones of college staff in Uri | | |  Tahir-Ul Haq

BARAMULLA, May 17: A doctor who happens to be son of the legislature from Uri constituency continues to meddle in the affairs of education institutions of the area, and in the latest case he virtually ransacked a college and assaulted its staff.
Principal of the government degree college has written a letter to Education Minister (no: GDCU/MISC/208-13, dated 14/5/015), in which he has mentioned that on May 14 District Development Commissioner Baramulla along with a team of officers visited the college.
During the course of meeting one Dr Sajad Ahmad, son of Mohammad Shafi (MLA Uri) "appeared uninvited" on the scene along with a bunch of local residents and political workers. "They demanded land for path to their mohalla adjoining the college from the acquired land of the college which was refuted by DDC, Baramulla as it would be against the rules," the letter mentions.
It adds that after the departure of visiting team, Dr Sajad and his supporters entered into an argument with the principal, demanding that they should be given the six feet path through college campus up to their ,ohalla.
The principal told them that their demand did not fall in his jurisdiction and needs to be taken up at the higher forum.
"It was at this spell that a number of hooligans on instigation by Dr Sajad entered my office, launched a physical assault on me by throwing the office furniture on me and tried to inflict serious injuries on myself intentionally," the principal said.
He said that in the course of "this subversive action they vandalized the whole office and tore apart important record pertaining to land acquisition and construction of college besides breaking glass panes, tables and chairs, as they manhandled college employees not sparing even the lady employees."
"As this vandalism and barbaric act was on Dr Sajad stood outside my officer as a shield to these elements. The major culprit involved in this act besides their master are Inam Mir, Farooq Ahmad Mir, Ishfaq Ahmad Mir, Manzoor Ahmad Banday and Ashiq Hussain Mir."
It is pertinent to mention that an application was moved in the court of Sub Judge Uri by a group of residents in 2014 which includes a couple of culprits mentioned in the letter for demand of land for path.
However the application was disposed by the court in favor of the college and their plea was rejected.
Letter mentions that in the wake of frustration these goons have made the smooth functioning of this institution impossible and their being harbored and supported by Dr Sajad "in the capacity which undersigned fails to understand, as he is a government employee."
Dr Sajad "has been continuously dabbling in the internal affairs of the college which has severely jeopardized the internal administration and academic atmosphere."
The police has already launched an FIR into the manhandling of the college staff. |
