Jammu, May 17: Even as harvesting is about to complete, the government is yet to undertake survey to assess losses caused by untimely rains and hailstorm. Source in the department informed Early Times that despite the Jammu and Kashmir government's announcement, the survey has not been conducted so far. "The government directed authorities' of revenue department to conduct survey to access loses occurred due to rain and hail storms with collaboration of Agriculture department, so far 50 per cent areas was covered, however, the crop had ripe, so farmers, without wasting any more started harvesting." They further said that rather than constituting a special team for the purpose, department doing the job through routine Girdawari (annual access of revenue department). One of employee of Agriculture department, has associated with revenue department to access losses to crop, told that the department has allotted him two villages with more than two thousands Khasra number. "But every day we are covering 50 to 60 Kharas. Few days have left to submit the report to higher department but half of the survey is pending", he informed. He further said that some of the farmers had repeatedly requested with him, seeking visit of their respective areas, but it is difficult to access or visits such huge area for single person. When contacted Tehsildar Suchetgarh, Kulbushan Khajuria said that survey in 50 percent area has been completed, rest of area would be covered by May 20. "Report of damaged crop will forward to higher authorities May 20", he added. Meanwhile, Avtar Singh Jasrotia, Tehsildar Jammu said, "Department annually conducts Girdawari survey to observe Rabi crops, report will be submitted to the government as and when survey complete", he added. |
