Cong starts membership drive in different parts of state

JAMMU, May 17:In its bid to rejuvenate the party in J&K, the Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) today kick started membership drive in various parts of the state.
In Jammu, the drive began at Geeta Mandir, Bakshi Nagar under the leadership of Vice President PCC and former Minister Raman Bhalla.
Speaking on the occasion, the senior Congress leader Bhalla called upon the party workers to put in their best efforts to ensure maximum membership from Jammu city.
He asked the Congress activists to instill a sense of cooperation among them while executing the exercise to add new members into the party fold.
Bhalla hoped that the workers would leave no stone unturned in ensuring highest numbers of new members from Jammu adding that the drive would further strengthen the party at grass root levels.
On the occasion, PCC General Secretary Manmohan Singh, senior Congress leader Surinder Singh Shinagri, District Congress Committee (Jammu Urban) Anil Chopra besides others were also present.
At Katra, the membership drive of the Congress party was launched under the leadership of Member Legislative Council (MLC) and former Minister Jugal Kishore Sharma.
Speaking on the occasion, Jugal Kishore Sharma exhorted upon the party workers to reach out to maximum number of people in every nook and corner of Reasi district in order to get the drive to its optimum level.
Sharma hoped that through the medium of membership drive the Congress party would get a new boost which in turn would help it to attain new heights.
On the occasion, Reasi District Congress Committee President Pritam Singh, senior Congres leader Saradri Lal Dubey, Tariq Bhat, Ravi Nag, Ashok Padha and Surinder Sharma were present.
Meanwhile in Kupwara, Vice President PCC Haji Abdul Rashid Dar launched the membership drive.
According to a press release, on the occasion Vice President G M Saroori, spokesperson Farooq Andrabi, General Secretary Surinder Singh Channi and District President Haji Farooq Mir were also present. All party functionaries of District Kupwara, Block President, prominent leaders and workers were also present.
While speaking on the occasion, Haji Abdul Rashid asked the workers to start the membership campaign vigorously and try to enroll maximum number of members in their blocks.
Terming Congress Party a movement, Haji Rashid Dar said that Congress Party is oldest political party with a history of 125 years in serving the people and the country. He said Congress party is a vibrant force in every nook and corner of the state and the membership drive which is being undertaken every year, was a step towards further strengthening the party by way of involving young, dynamic and educated people, who are desirous to serve the society.
He hoped that this time too Congress leaders and workers will be able to enroll highest number of members throughout the state.
