| No breather for SSA teachers, Govt says release of salaries to take time | | | Early Times Report
SRINAGAR, May 17: There seems no breather to Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) teachers who are without salaries from last nine months, as the state government Sunday made it clear that release of their pending salaries will take another 15 days. A senior minister wishing anonymity told that though the government has cleared Rs 170 crore on account of salaries of SSA teachers, to clear the entire amount it will take another 15 days. Interestingly the Education Minister two days before had told that the payment of the salaries to the SSA teachers will be streamlined within few days. The minister admitted that SSA teachers didn't get their salaries for past several months saying the funds from both, Union ministry of Human Resources Development and state government were not released due to some departmental issues. It is pertinent to mention here that hundreds of SSA teachers in the state have not been paid salaries for the past several months. Salary under the SSA scheme is shared between the Central government (65 per cent) and the state government (35 per cent). |
