Graph of Urdu knowing people comes down in police deptt | Dependence on retd personnel increases | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Sept 9 With the number of Urdu knowing people experiencing a gradual decrease in J&K police, dependence on retired police personnel, who are well-versed with the language, has been increasing. All the official work in J&K police stations is done in Urdu. Since very few new recruits in police know Urdu, services of the retired police personnel are being hired to do work in police stations, according to police sources. "The main work of the hired police personnel (retired) is to make challans for presenting them in courts and do other paper work," sources said. Many of them could be seen doing paper work in the rooms of munshis in various police stations of Jammu. Most of the "re-employed" police personnel were those who had joined the force as cops and then risen to the ranks of ASIs or SIs. "The new recruits, who know Urdu, may take two to three days to make a challan but the same challan is made by these retired personnel in two to three hours. Their challans are also perfectly written and there is no scope of any mistake in them," the sources added. In some cases, where the retired police personnel show their reluctance to visit the police stations for one reason or the other, the thana record is taken to their residences. They were being paid good amounts for preparing challans and doing other paper work, sources said, adding that this money was being paid to them by the IO and munshis. |
