Now, BJP bows to PDP on helicopter service tax | | | Early Times Report jammu, Sept 9: The BJP leadership seems to have surrendered the interests of people of Jammu region and is not raising its voice with the Government over step-motherly treatment meted out with the city of temples. First it was allowing the Finance Ministry to impose service tax on helicopter service for Vaishno Devi pilgrims followed by washing their hands of this decision and later on getting the reply that decision will not be reversed has exposed the BJP and its Ministers. Vaishno Devi shrine is one of the most revered shrines in India and every year more than 10 million people pay obeisance at the shrine located on Trikuta hills. Lakhs of pilgrims take helicopter service to reach the shrine and perform darshan, and imposing the service tax is meant to vitiate the peaceful atmosphere of the State. Jammu and Kashmir has seen the fallout of playing with the religious sentiments of people of Jammu in 2008 when the Azad led Congress-PDP Government reversed the decision to allow land to Amarnath Shrine Board. And now interfering in affairs of Vaishno Devi shrine board is an attempt to undermine this institution and hurt religious sentiments. The BJP is solely responsible for this decision of the Government as one of its Ministers is also holding the charge of MoS Finance. They can't fool people more as every time BJP is getting exposed with one or the other way. Earlier, they bowed before the Kashmiri politicians and allowed them to get AIIMS and now imposing service tax is a slap on the face of BJP. From Deputy Chief Minister Nirmal Singh to his cabinet and Ministerial colleagues from Jammu need to answer the people of Jammu and the rest of the country as why Government was allowed to interfere in the religious matter. |
