Clubbing of colleges with newly formed University | Career of students from JK at stake in Punjab | | Early Times Report Srinagar Sept 9: The career of hundreds of students from Jammu & Kashmir is at stake in various parts of Punjab as the Government of Punjab has ordered to club dozens of engineering, management , and many other professional colleges with newly created Maharaj Ranjit Singh State Univeristy (MRSSU). These colleges were earlier affiliated with Punjab State Technical University (PTU) which is very much recognized in Jammu & Kashmir. The MRSSU as on date is not recognized by J&K Government and the students from these colleges are on war path against their respective college managements. The students, who had sought admissions under Punjab Technical University (PTU), are opposing the Punjab government decision bringing their colleges under the domain of Maharaja Ranjit Singh State University (MRSSU) which is not recognized by the J&K government said an MBA student Syed Tajamul while taking to Early Times from Chandigrah said. "The bona-fide certificate issued to us by college shows that the college namely Swami Vivakanad Instiute of Engineering and technology (SVIET) is affiliated with Punjab Technical University (PTU) but now we are being told that we have to make our registration with MRSSU." a student of B-Tech from SVIET said. "We had assembled on Tuesday morning at Aryans Group of College to demand refund of fee and return of certificates from our colleges but the local police manhandled us and threatened us ," said a student Sajid Ali over phone from Chandigarh. "Certificates issued by the PTU are recognized by J&K government. The Punjab government recently approved establishment of Maharaja Ranjit Singh State University (MRSST)complete our degrees from this university , we can't apply for any Government job in our state ie Jammu & Kashmir " which has said a Ashish Sharma from Jammu who is undergoing B Tech course at Chandigrah . "The territorial jurisdiction of the newly formed University ie MRSST would be over colleges located in Bathinda, Barnala, Faridkot, Fatehgarh Sahib, Fazilka, Ferozepur, Mansa, Moga, Sri Muktsar Sahib, Patiala and Sangrur districts of the state. Students have now appealed Minister for Education J&K Naeem Akhtar and MoS Priya Sethi to intervene. " We appeal Naeem Akhtar and Priya Sethi to come to our rescue and take up this issue with Punjab Government, either we should be clubbed with PTU or J&K Govt must recognize the degrees obtained from Maharaja Ranjit Singh State University (MRSSU) " said a student Ubaid Mushtaq from Bhatinda It has been learnt that protests are being held at several colleges by students from J&K over this issue. |
