| BJP pushing Jammu people to the wall | | Story of betrayals | |

jammu, Sept 9: When the BJP got 25 out of 37 seats from Jammu region, the people of the region described this "historic" outcome as their own victory as well as victory over anti-Jammu, pro-separatist and pro-Pakistan Kashmiri leadership. They had expressed the hope that the victorious and strengthened BJP would fight for their cause and self-respect with renewed vigour and unleash a movement calculated to obtain the place for the people of the region in the polity they deserved. They had expressed full faith in the BJP.
Mercifully, all of their hopes have dashed to the ground. The BJP, instead of fighting for the genuine Jammu cause, has been bartering the rights and interests of the people of Jammu region and becoming a party to all such decisions which certain elements in the establishment have been taking to cause an affront to their self-respect. Its conduct has been shameless. The BJP has not only betrayed the Jammu mandate by becoming part of the establishment that hates the people of Jammu region and denies them their due share in the governance of the State, but has also given a freehand to them so that they could outrage the religious sensitivities of the non-Muslims, who constitute the second largest majority in the State.
And this shameful and mean conduct of the BJP, notwithstanding the fact that all Kashmiri leaders, without any exception, have joined hands against the people of Jammu region and the nation as a whole. All the Kashmiri leaders in one voice have opposed the demand in Jammu for issuing Dogra certificates to the Dogra youth and there is no opposition in Kashmir to the decision which State Finance Minister Haseeb Drabu took on September 2 to play with the religious the sensitivities of the Hindus by imposing 12.5 per cent service tax on those pilgrims to Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine who have no other alternative but to avail themselves of the helicopter service. The Hindus and the parties like the Congress have described this tax as "Jazya tax" and demanded its rollback and the BJP has been simply making hollow statements.
Earlier, the State Government debarred the Jammu youth from appearing in the Naib Tehsildars' examination by making Urdu a compulsory subject knowing it well that bulk of the Jammu youth did not know Urdu as its teaching was never popularized in the region by the vested interests in the administration with a view to establishing the control of a particular community on the crucial revenue magistracy. This also happened at a time when the BJP was part of the Government, thus establishing that the BJP has sold out Jammu region and its honour and dignity. Leave aside the agenda of alliance that is being described by one and all in Jammu as anti-Jammu, anti-India and pro-separatist and pro-Pakistan agenda, as also the fact that the present dispensation rejected outright the demand of the refugees from Pakistan for citizenship rights with the BJP defending the Revenue Minister's and Law Department's stand and saying that these refugees could not be granted citizenship rights as they were not covered under the law on the subject. The BJP leader and Deputy Chief Minister Nirmal Singh took this stand after the State Government informed the Assembly that refugees couldn't be granted citizenship rights. Indeed, the conduct of the BJP has been similar to that of the Congress. In fact, the BJP has been more brazen.
But these are not the only instances which serve to indicate the Kashmiri leadership's hatred for the people of Jammu region and all the non-Muslims across the nation. The fact of the matter is that neither the people of Jammu region nor the people across the nation have any place whatsoever in the Kashmiri scheme of things and that it is the writ of Kashmiri leadership that runs in the State. They have no say in the governance of the State. Nor do the BJP Ministers in the State Government matter; they don't have the ability and capacity to understand what the Kashmiri leadership has been doing to destroy Jammu region and weaken the Indian resolve in Kashmir. They are there just in name and their only duty is to dance to the Kashmiri tunes, obey the diktats and humiliate and insult the people of Jammu region. |
