jammu, Sept 9: Free voice, criticism, tolerance to dissent voices are main contributing factors for all healthy democratic institutions but brute use of force-muscle power are tactics, being adopted by forces inimical to dissent voices, since the time immemorial and Jammu University administration is no exception in its efforts to muzzle free voice.
The frustration level of JU administration has reached to such an alarming level that on Wednesday, varsity sent nearly a dozen goons to office of Early Times, reportedly with a purpose to threaten the reporters, who have been exposing their misdeeds.
The pack of goons was led by three scholars namely Ajay Taloor, Kapil Shastri and Praduman Singh beside others. The credentials of these three goons are also under scanner and varsity records are testimony to it, besides this band of disgruntled goons is reportedly holding close allegiance to varsity officials and one of goon is even official member of Saffron party, and is earning disrepute for the Hindu organization, by doing such cheap acts.
The basic reason of annoyance for this herd of goons is that being very close to officials at the helm of affairs, this group is main beneficiary of illegal deeds of varsity administration, which is also reportedly close to Saffron party. The varsity administration has been leaving no stone unturned to adjust these goons on various posts, either by tailoring rules or by hook or crook, despite the fact that varsity records are testimony to controversial back-round of these goons.
Kapil Shastri, Research Scholar, Department of Sanskrit was suspended by JU, under order number JU/DSW/2014/6299-6303, dated 28/1/2014 and he was also debarred from entering campus and hostels of varsity. The University had in a show-cause notice issued to Kapil Shastri had maintained that Shastri had tarnished the image of University in general and faculty members and employees in particular and also maligned the image of university staff.
"You have accepted through a written statement on 16/12/2013 that you have illegally trespassed the private E-Mail ID of a contractual lecturer Dr. Ajay Kumar, Department of Remote Sensing and GIS for circulating a defamatory press release to print and electronic media", the show cause notice reads.
Moreover, Praduman Singh, presently Ph.D scholar in department of Dogri was given admission for Ph.D course despite having 49 % marks in Master programme, which was in violation of laid norms. For accommodating this blue eyed candidate in Dogri department, the intake capacity of M.Phil seats was increased from 10 to 16 seats in the session 2009-10, along with special relaxation granted to Praduman Singh, in case of percentage of marks in qualifying exams.
In case of third scholar of Geology, Ajay Taloor, who was reportedly scheduled to be adjusted in Remote Sensing and GIS, as contractual lecturer, eligibility which suits Ajay Taloor's was formulated, as he was earlier adjusted as contractual lecturer without any eligibility.
To adjust Ajay Taloor, varsity administration had sought applications with two different eligibility qualifications for the same post. For the post of contractual lecturer in Remote Sensing &GIS, two different notifications were issued. In notification number Adm/TW/C&R/15/119 dated 03/07/2015, the JU had invited applications for the post of lecturer in Remote Sensing & GIS with a different eligibility, the documents revealed. As per first notification, eligibility with 55 percent marks, NET/SLET qualification was required, but though Ajay Taloor had several certificates and degrees so to suit Ajay Taloor, applications with only post-graduation qualification were invited by varsity.
The Early Times had time and again exposed the misdeeds of varsity administration which is in close liaison with these goons, so infuriated over their exposure, these goons reached ET office at Samadian road and threatened to close the newspaper, besides hurling abuses on the staff.
This pack of goons seemed unaware about the repeated attacks by previous Government headed by Omar Abdullah, to stifle the voice of Early Times, but it refused to buckle under pressure.
