Farooq in his true colours, opposes Dogra certificate | NC, Hurriyat on same side | | Early Times Report jammu, Sept 9: There is no difference between the so-called Valley-based National Conference and Kashmir-based separatists and fanatics like Syed Ali Shah Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, Yasin Malik and Shabir Shah. They belong to that school of thought that considers Jammu region as Kashmir's colony and its people the slaves of Kashmir. The only difference between the two is that while the NC has been seeking to impose its regressive and sectarian agenda on the people of Jammu region by taking part in the electoral exercises, the separatists have been striving to achieve the same by holding aloof from such exercises and by organizing anti-India and anti-Jammu events in the Valley. That the NC leadership and the Hurriyat leaders are two sides of one and the same coin could be seen from what the NC president and former Chief Minister Farooq Abdullah said on Tuesday in Srinagar on the occasion of the 33rd death anniversary of his father, Sheikh Abdullah. Apart from asking New Delhi to engage with Pakistan to resolve the Kashmir issue, Farooq Abdullah warned that the State would disintegrate if PDP-BJP coalition Government revived the Dogra certificate. "This is a wrong way. They want to divide Jammu & Kashmir. If their plan is to divide Jammu & Kashmir, then I warn them from this stage that you will be responsible for the sufferings that could befall the State. Jammu is our gateway and Kashmir is the gateway to Ladakh and if you divide the state, it will have dangerous consequences which the country cannot take. So, I appeal to all those who are raising such demands that they should not raise such voices which will increase the hatred," Farooq Abdullah said. By opposing the very genuine demand of the Jammu Dogras, Farooq Abdullah established that he and his outfit were no different from the Hurriyat leaders and that his whole approach towards Jammu region was parochial and sectarian. He only indulged in politics of competitive sectarianism by saying what he said and proved that he, like other Kashmiris, has little or no regard for the sentiments of the people of Jammu region. He took the stand which would further erode the support-base of the NC in Jammu region. It appears the NC wants to close down its unpopular shop in Jammu region. |
