JAMMU, Sept 9: Government Degree College (GDC) Akhnoor and GGM Science College won their respective matches to move into the next round of the ongoing inter-college men's badminton tournament, organized by the Directorate of Sports and Physical Education, University of Jammu (JU) at Gymnasium Hall on the campus, here today.
While GDC Akhnoor outplayed GDC Billawar 3-2 while Science College defeated GDC Paloura 3-0. In two scheduled matches, GDC Ramnagar and GDC Udhampur got walkovers to qualify for the next round of the competition.

GDC Akhnoor beat GDC Billawar 3-2. The Results: Singles: Balwinder Sharma lost to Sayam Jandial 20-22, 18-21; Sunil Kumar beat Binny Basliya 21-08, 21-15. Doubles: Ashish and Rahul lost to Sayam and Lovesh 07-21, 14-21. Reverse singles: Vikas Sharma beat Rajpal Sharma 21-18, 21-18. Doubles: Balvinder and Sunil beat Binny and Sunil 21-17, 24-22. GGM Science College beat GDC Paloura 3-0: The Results: Singles: Chetan Sharma beat Chaunder Dev 21-03, 21-07; Zahoor Abass beat Davinder 21-19, 21-11. Doubles: Zahoor and Chetan beat Davinder and Abhijeet 21-09, 21-07. GDC Ramnagar got walkover GDC Mendhar while GDC Udhampur got walkover GDC Reasi.
BADMINTON WOMEN: Meanwhile, in women's badminton tournament, all the scheduled matches ended in walkover. While GDC Samba got walkover GDC Reasi, Trikuta Degree College awarded walkover Government MAM College. Today's matches officiated by the technical penal including Vikram Jamwal, Amit Sharma, Rakesh Verma, Taranpal Singh, Mammohan Sharma and Pushap Thakur.
KHO-KHO: In the inter-college men's kho-kho tournament, GDC Samba outplayed GGM Science College 7-5 to reach the next round of the competition being held on the campus grounds, here today. The kho-kho event is being conducted by the technical penal comprising Anil Sharma, Gagan Kumar, Anil Kumar, Ankush Sharma and Sachin.
BASKETBALL: Semifinals position has been cleared in the inter-college men's basketball tournament, organized the Directorate of Sports and Physical Education, University of Jammu at MA Stadium, here today.
Teams making it to the last four stages included PG Departments, GGM Science College, SPMR College of Commerce and Government MAM College. Earlier, in quarterfinals, played today, PG beat GDC Kathua 41-22 while GGM Science College defeated GDC Paloura 31-05. In other last eight stages matches, Commerce College outplayed GDC Udhampur 41-07 and MAM College got walkover GDC Samba. Basketball quarterfinals were officiated by the technical panel including Aman Sharma (SAI coach), Harpreet Singh, Manoj Kumar, Sumit Dogra and Rajesh Bhagat. |
