Members cutting across party lines voice concern over HC order on promotions
10/10/2015 10:09:35 PM
Srinagar, Oct 10: Cutting across party lines, members from the treasury and opposition benches today voiced their concern over the High Court order against reservation in promotions in Jammu and Kashmir. The issue was raised by a NC member Javid Ahmad Rana from Mendhar constituency during Question-Hour who claimed that seven lakh people belonging to different castes of the state will get affected by this order. Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Basharat Bukhari said that government has not yet received official copy of the court order. ''We have learnt about the court order only through media. Let us get the official copy, ''he said and assured that after examining the court we will react accordingly. However, several members from treasury and opposition benches remained on their feet demanding a statement from the government. Minister for Social Welfare, Forest, Ecology and Environment Bali Bhagat intervened and said the HC has given its verdict on a Public Interest Litigaion (PIL) filed by some people. ''Let us receive the copy and we will examine till that time members have to wait,'' he added. Yesterday, a Division Bench of Jammu and Kashmir HC comprising Justices Hasnain Masoodi and Janak Raj Kotwal held that there shall be no benefit of reservation in promotions in state government departments. The judgement has been passed in a bunch of petitions filed by general category engineers challenging the promotions of AEs to AEEs and AEEs to Executive Engineers.
