Mufti refers to development as important key to progress in country, state | | | Jehangir Rashid Early Times Report SRINAGAR, Oct 10: Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed today said that Jammu & Kashmir has suffered immensely over the past few decades due to the militancy and the people would not allow further deterioration of the law & order situation. "We have suffered like anything in the state due to the militancy but we would not allow repeat of such situation in future. My government is committed towards good governance and transparent system and there is no going back on it. People should understand that we are here for solving their problems but it would take some time," said Mufti on the concluding day of autumn session of legislative assembly. The chief minister said that development holds key to the progress of the country and the state as well. He said the people have understood that politics of hatred would not lead them to anywhere and as such they are more than willing to extend their hand of cooperation. He added that elements hell bent on dividing the society on different lines needs to be taught a lesson. "Prime Minister Narendra Modi got votes on the plank of development. Development holds key to the progress of our country and we need to understand the same. Since all of us want peace, progress and development it is important that we bridge the differences. This would give credence to the slogan united we stand divided we fall," said Mufti. The chief minister said that he wanted the opposition to keep the government on its toes so that the ultimate benefits trickle down to the common masses. He said the legislature is a supreme institution wherein the legislators raise issues of public importance and want solution to the problems being faced by the commoners. "The session was held at a time when the situation was critical in the country as well as state. I am happy that the legislators acted in a matured manner and did not fall prey to the divisive elements. Same holds true with the people who have become mature enough to distinguish between good and bad. The sense of hatred that had crept in due to some unfortunate incidents was kept at bay due to the matured response of the opposition members," said Mufti. The chief minister hailed the role of legislators and said that the Jammu & Kashmir can easily be compared with the Congress or Senate of United States of America. He said the opposition played its role to oppose, depose and expose to perfection and for that he complimented the role of opposition legislators. He hailed the resolution adopted by the house on Friday in which it was made clear that peace shall prevail in the state whatever the situation. Pitching for holding of two sessions of the legislature in Srinagar in future, Mufti said that Congress leader and former chief minister Ghulam Nabi Azad had set a good example in this regard some years back. He said the legislators should discuss and debate so that some solution is found out to the problems being faced by the people. In his address, MLA Kulgam Mohammad Yusuf Tarigami said that legislators should introspect as where they stand on date. He said that legislators should bridge differences so that people of Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh become a single vibrant force. He said the 'unity in diversity' in the state has benefitted the people adding that secularism has been strengthened. Tarigami urged chief minister to provide good governance so that the miseries and problems of the people are solved. He said the ministers should act in a more responsible manner so that the genuine concerns of the masses are looked into in a professional manner. |
