Cong divided over beef ban | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Oct 10: There seems to be a divide emerging within Congress over beef ban as the valley legislators and leaders are against beef ban and Jammu leaders want a complete ban on cow slaughtering and consumption of beef. Almost all the Congress legislators from Muslim dominated areas of Jammu region and that of Kashmir valley don't want to annoy voters in their respective constituencies whereas leaders from Hindu dominated areas of Jammu want beef ban to be strengthened further. Sources in Congress said while there was no consensus between Hindu and Muslim leaders of the party over the matter, they were not making it public. "Both the sides have been told by the party leaders to keep mum and not fall prey to the politics being done by BJP as well as NC," said a source. Despite directions from the top, Congress leaders from Jammu yesterday held a protest and demanded a complete ban on cow slaughtering and beef sale. Though the Congress , being out of the power, will not have to face the peoples' ire on the issue but their legislators are certainly facing the pressure from their constituencies. |
