Will police book culprit Rashid? | PDP hits nail on head, says beef party was an attempt to disturb peace | | Politics of bluff, deceit Early Times Report JAMMU, Oct 10: The PDP on Saturday came down heavily on Langate MLA, Er Rashid, saying he hosted the party to disturb peace in the State. Actually, PDP MLC Yasir Reshi condemned him and his act in the Upper House and termed the beef party as a big conspiracy. "The beef party hosted inside Srinagar MLA hostel was a big conspiracy to disrupt peace in J&K," Reshi was quoted as saying in the Legislative Council two days after the scuffle that took place between a couple of BJP MLAs and Rashid within the Assembly. The PDP, which is in the driving seat, did well to put things in perspective by virtually telling the Upper House that Rashid's intentions were ill-designed. Indeed, Rashid committed an act that did disturb peace in the State and brought face to face the two communities. The despicable act - apart from creating an ugly scene in the Assembly on Thursday leading to chaos and anarchy within and outside the Assembly - provoked widespread protests in Jammu. Almost all the non-BJP groups condemned the beef party and demanded stringent action against Rashid. The Panthers Party went to the extent of giving a call for bandh on Saturday, a call that was universally supported in Jammu. The successful bandh that the people of Jammu organized today and widespread protests which the winter capital witnessed during the past two days were a befitting response to the ongoing process of radicalization in Kashmir from the people of Jammu whose religious sentiments had been hurt by the unpardonable act against the age-old legal system. On Friday, the hurt Jammu people observed bandh in Udhampur district and elsewhere against the Chenani episode. Now that the PDP itself has told the Upper House that Rashid conspired to disrupt peace and communal harmony in the State, it will be only appropriate for the State police to swing into action against the disturber of peace and communal harmony. Rashid has to be booked and brought to justice to assuage the hurt feelings of Jammu people. It is also expected that J&K High Court would take suo-motto notice of what Rashid said during the beef party against the judiciary, legislature and other institutions. "No court or legislature could prevent us from eating what we want. Nobody on earth, no Assembly, no court and no institution can stop us from having what we want to have," he said on Thursday. Rashid doesn't deserve any concession as the crime he committed has disturbed communal harmony in the State and it also constituted an attack on judiciary, legislature and the religious sentiments of Jammu people. |
