Modi takes charge, summons Nirmal Singh | Leaders discuss shuffling, dropping ministers; Beef controversy, other issues | | Early Times Report Jammu, Oct 10: The Deputy Chief Minister Dr Nirmal Singh called on Prime Minister Narendra Modi at 7 Race Course Road in New Delhi on Saturday and discussed vital issues related to Jammu and Kashmir, sources told Early Times. The meeting assumed significance as it was the first ever meet between Dr Nirmal Singh and the Prime Minister Narendra Modi since the formation of coalition government in Jammu and Kashmir. The meeting started at 4.45 pm and lasted till 5:30 pm. Sources said both the leaders discussed various issues like security situation, law and order, reconstruction package and inauguration of Baglihar Phase-II. Other issues, according to the sources, which came up for discussion included 'sensitivities' of the state of affairs in Jammu and Kashmir. " Dr Singh and Prime Minister also discussed the possibility of shuffling, elevating and dropping some BJP ministers in the state cabinet," they added. The meeting assumed significance in the backdrop of controversies engulfing Jammu and Kashmir and the recent being the beef issue. The Deputy Chief Minister, sources said, briefed the Prime Minister about the issues confronting the state and possible steps which need to be taken to ensure that BJP functions as a single unit. Pertinently, the national general secretary (organization) Ram Madhav has been handling JK affairs since the Assembly elections ended in JK. "This time around Prime Minister decided to seek feedback directly from the Deputy Chief Minister to ascertain the ground realities and to check whether the feedback provided by Madhav during all these months has been right or wrong," sources claimed. They said the other factor which led to the Prime Minister taking the charge was "distinctive" role of MoS in Prime Minister's Office from Jammu Dr Jitender Singh. Since the day he has taken over as the MoS his statements on AIIMS and later his appeal to PDP-BJP coalition government to bring in the legislation to restore Dogra certificate have stirred the hornet's nest. It's in place to mention here that Dr Jitender Singh had congratulated the people of Jammu for having 'got the AIIMS, while the Finance Minister Arun Jaitley" budget speech on AIIMS on the floor of the House carried altogether different contours. Jammu had boiled over the issue and Deputy Chief Minister Dr Nirmal Singh had to give in writing that full fledged AIIMS would be established in the Jammu region, but Dr Singh had to cut a sorry figure as no such announcement was made within the stipulated time triggering an agitation in Jammu and adjoining areas. The MoS in PMO Dr Jitendra Singh had raked up the need for legislation to restore Dogra certificate which was denied by the state government. In reply to a written question of MLA Kuldeep Raj in the Assembly whether the government proposed to issue 'Dogra Certificate' in favour of bonafide Dogra persons as was in vogue previously, the Minister for Revenue in his reply through Under Secretary to Government Revenue Department had stated that government has no such proposal under consideration. The 'beef controversy', being the latest issue that has once again lined up the two major communities of the state in a face-off situation which can spiral up the communal hatred anytime leading to unimaginable chaos. |
