Park or residential plots? | Billowria inaugurated park on already allotted land, claims Housing Corporation | | Early Times Report Jammu, Oct 10: A former town planner and an influential businessman allegedly encroaching a public park at Tawi Vihar colony here has snowballed into a major controversy as the Congress MLC Rani Gargi Billoria moved a calling attention motion in the upper house to draw the government's attention towards the issue. The Congress MLC stated that there is strong land mafia which has encroached the public park at Tawi Vihar. She said that she had inaugurated the park in 2005 when she was the deputy mayor of Jammu. However, Jammu and Kashmir Housing Corporation issued a press statement said:" How can a park be inaugurated on the land which was duly alloted/leased out in favour of the beneficiary members way back in 1999/2000." Taking note of the Calling Attention notice moved by Billowria the Minister of the State for Revenue Sunil Sharma said that his department would intensify the anti encroachment drive. "Everyone is equal before the law and stern action would be taken against the encroachers", the minister said. Meanwhile, a team of revenue officials, including Naib Tehsildhar and Patwari led by Tehsildar Abid Hussain reached on the site at Tawi Vihar Colony and got the construction work stopped. The revenue department has also brought the matter into the notice of the police. The DC Jammu Simrandeep Singh, has, however, granted two days time to his subordinates for submission of the inquiry report. The inquiry on the part of the DC Jammu was started after MLC wrote a letter to him urging inquiry into the turning of park into residential plots. Pertinently, the issue of encroachment of the park sanctioned for the Tawi Vihar Colony came to limelight when residents of the locality raised hue and cry and even held protest against the Housing Corporation that had allotted plots out of the park. |
