Opposition carries out walk out from Assembly against attack on three Kashmiris at Udhampur | | | Jehangir Rashid
Early Times Report SRINAGAR, Oct 10: Legislators of the opposition parties carried out a brief walk out from the legislative assembly today against the attack carried out on three persons near Udhampur who were travelling in a truck from Jammu to Srinagar. As soon as the house started its proceedings the legislators of opposition parties led by MLA Khanyar Ali Mohammad Sagar stood up and raised the issue of the attack that took place at Udhampur in the Jammu division. The legislators alleged that the attack on the persons belonging to Anantnag district was carried out by Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) activists. Sagar and the other legislators alleged that the state government is shying away from its responsibilities and not taking care of the persons injured in the attack. The legislators also alleged that the police is trying to shield the 'attackers' since they are affiliated with BJP. The legislators expressed surprise that legislators of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) are keeping mum over the incident. As the legislators of National Conference, Congress along with MLA Kulgam Mohammad Yusuf Tarigami, MLA Khan Sahib Hakim Mohamamd Yasin and MLA Langate Engineer Abdul Rashid were carrying on their protest against the incident; Minister for Horticulture, Haj and Auqaf Abdul Rehman Veeri stood up and said that the government is ready to give its statement on the issue. Veeri read out the action taken report and assured the house that stern action would be taken against the 'culprits'. He said that there was no reason for the opposition to raise protest over the issue and they should allow the law enforcing agencies to carry out their job. He claimed that the government would not sit over the issue with action being taken against the attackers. The minister said that Director General of Police (DGP) Kondavati Rajendra would visit the Udhampur area today and take stock of the situation. Feeling dissatisfied with the reply of Veeri the legislators of opposition parties walked out of the house, although for a brief period. After their re-entry the legislators took active part in the proceedings. Engineer Rashid wanted to know the fate of the FIR lodged in the recent incident at Rajouri. Earlier in his reply, Veeri said that three accused persons have been arrested and a manhunt is on to nab the other miscreants responsible for the attack. He said last night a group of miscreants assembled near hotel Dolphin in Shiv Nagar area of Udhampur district and hurled a bottle containing some combustible material over a Kashmir based truck bearing registration number JK03D-1142. "Police parties under the command of DySP headquarter Udhampur and SHO Police Station Udhampur, who were already conducting patrolling in the area, immediately swung into action and rescued the persons namely Showkat Ahmed S/O Ghulam Ahmed Dar R/O Uranhal, Anantnag and Zahid Ahmad S/O Ghulam Rasool R/o Botengu Anantnag," said the minister. Veeri said that while Showkat and Zahid got burn injuries in the attack, the driver Rameez Ahmad Bhat R/O Botengu Anantnag escaped unhurt with the truck also being saved from any damage. He said the injured persons were rushed to the district hospital Udhampur for treatment where from they have been further referred to GMC Jammu for specialized treatment. The minister said that due to the prompt action of police three accused persons namely Bal Bahadur Singh S/o Girdhari Lal R/o Sambal, Sandoor Singh S/o Thakur R/o Sambal and Suneet Singh S/o Pardeep Singh R/o Sambal have been arrested. He said FIR under Explosives Substance Act has been registered against the culprits at Police Station Udhampur. |
