No decision yet on land allotment to border firing victims

Jammu, Oct 10: The government of Jammu and Kashmir today said that it has submitted the plan to enhance the compensation to cross border firing victims from existing Rs one lac for the next to kin of the deceased.
In reply to A.Q. No: 448 of MLA Dr. Krishan Lal that the measures taken for payment of compensation to the victims of Pakistani Firing on borders(LoC/IB), the Minister in charge Relief & Rehabilitation through Under Secretary to Government Relief & Rehabilitation Department stated that exgratia relief has been paid to the persons killed/injured due to border shelling/firing @Rs. 1 lac for death and Rs. 75000 in case of permanent disability and Rs. 5000 for injured person while 50% assured loss to immoveable property damaged subjected to ceiling of Rs. 1 lac in each case as per existing norms. As per government reply, compensation to the tune of Rs. 2530752 has been paid in Jammu District in last two years and current year 2015. Similarly an amount of Rs.1308942 for Samba, Rs. 120000 for Kathua, 25000 for Rajouri and 1695000 for Poonch District has been paid as compensation to the border victims.
In another question regarding measures taken by the government for enhancing the compensation, the state government reply stated that a proposal for revising the compensation in regard of persons injured/expired in Cross-Border firing has been submitted to Government of India for consideration.
In reply to question on the measures taken by the government for allotment of 5 marlas of land to the people living within five kilometers of IB besides construction of concrete bunker for their safety, the reply stated that due to increase in incidents of firing on borders in recent past, the people are subjected to immense hardship and had often led to forcible migration of the people living in these areas to safer areas where temporary shelters/camps are being setup by the government added that however the affected people demanded allotment of plots at secure places as permanent solution for which the state cabinet vide decision No. 180/13/2014 dated 10-10-2014 directed the Revenue, Relief and Rehabilitation Department to submit a comprehensive proposal to the cabinet for providing 5 marlas of land per family in relatively safe zones adjacent to their native villages, but even after one year since the cabinet decision, not was done in this regard so far as the information pertains to the villages located between 0-5KM of the LOC/Border along with the number of effected families and the quantum of the land required for their rehabilitation is still being compiled by the Division Commissioner Jammu for further appropriate action.
