Srinagar, Oct 10 : Nearly 1200 Rohingyas (Burmese) families comprising 5107 members are staying in J&K and there are no reports of radicalization of these people, the state government said Saturday. In reply to the question of MLA Sat Pal Sharma, the minister in-charge Home stated that 1209 Rohingyas families are staying in the state at 21 places-all in Jammu district except two families in Kishtwar. The breakup of the families living in Jammu goes like this: Peer Baba Colony (46 families), Bhagwati Nagar (64), Biru Plot Narwal (34), Channi Himmat (22), Crusher Narwal (32), Gole Pulle (69), Jamat Ali Narwal (55), Kalu Plot Narwal (31), Kargil Colony Narwal I (101), Kargil Colony Narwal II (28), Malik Market Narwal (173), Panama Chowk (24), Papu Plot Narwal (105), Rashim Nagar Narwal (65), Rama Channi (31), Trikuta Nagar (31), Bari Brahamana (167), Dogra Hall (1), Domana sector (34), and Bathindi (94). The government said that out of the 5107 members, 4921 members are holding UNHCR cards. In reply to another question regarding the collection of funds by some organizations in the name of helping these people, the government said it had no reports. Only one NGO namely Sakhawat Centre Srinagar and members of Jamaat-e-Islamia Srinagar have distributed cash, goods, clothes and religious books among these families from time to time, the government said. In another question regarding 'radicalization' of these foreigners by some groups who even opened madrasas for them, the government denied such reports and said that no report regarding radicalization of these Burmese have been received so far.
