SIT to complete probe in a month: HC | Killing of 2 Anantnag youth in 2010 | | Early Times Report Srinagar, Oct 10: The state High Court has directed Special Investigation team of police to complete its investigation into the killing of two youths during 2010 unrest in south Kashmir's Anantnag district within one month. Hearing a petition filed by the families of the two victims, Bilal Ahmad Najar and Noor-ul-Amin Dugga, a single bench of the court comprising Justice Mohammad Yaqoob Mir said: "One month's time is granted with expectation that no further request for extension of the time is sought." Najar and Dugga were killed on September 19, 2010 after police allegedly opened fire on the funeral procession of another youth Maroof Ahmad Nath whose body was recovered on the day, few days after he had drowned allegedly after being chased by security forces. Earlier as the proceedings of the case started before the court, investigation officer of the case Aijaz Rasool was present in person and he submitted that investigation of the case is likely to be completed soon as all efforts are being put in for ensuring fair and defect free investigation and filing of charge sheet. He said that one month is required for completion of the investigation and for filing of charge sheet (challan). "Statement of most of the witnesses have been recorded and their statements are enough for filing the charge sheet," the court also observed and posted the case for further consideration in the week commencing from November 9. |
