ROLE OF BSF IN NATIONAL SECURITY | | By Dr. P.P Singh | 10/11/2015 12:33:32 AM |
| Border Security force is one of the best and toughest border force which was established in 1965. It keeps a vigil over the international border, LOC against the intrusion in the country whether, it is Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab , Rajasthan and Bangladesh Border. The force has more than 2.5 lakhs personals which are highly trained in Gurella\ ware fare, Internal security and with great zeal to fight on the IB as well as on LOC. The force is well equipped with latest weaponry trained and skilled in taking of militants crossing the border. It has capability to fight like army and is 2nd best force in the country after Indian army. Its men are highly disciplined and excel in the sports and other curricular activities. The force has played a pivotal role in natural calamities like flood, earth quakes in Jammu and Kashmir and else when deployed. The force has done a marvelous job in carrying out duties during parliament election in the country as well as assembly elections in the different states of India. The men of BSF also played an excellent job in rendering services to the Pilgrimage whether it was Shri Amar Nath ji yatra in Jammu or else where in the country. The force has also been able to contain nuxalites activities in the north east, Jharkhand and Chattisgarh by penetrating deep in the jungles and hides out of Nuxalities. Its officers have always lead the troops from the front in combating terrorism and militancy in the states and number of officers and Jawans of BSF gave supreme sacrifices in guarding by the borders as well as internal security. The force personals have also been decorated for the distinguish and exemplary courage. The force displayed his present of mind in liquidating the hard core miltants and nuxalites. They are always on the heels for the duties on the border whether it is very hot, cold raining or even during flood. They are always on the job with devotion, sincerity and with high moral. The force is guarding a long stretch of border extending from Run of kutch in Gujarat upto Jammu and Kashmir. The Jawans of BSF are maintaining strict vigil all along the border with Pakistan with latest night vision gadgetary provision which frequently catch the activities of intruders on the border and then appropriate action is taken against the intruder on the border according to the situation. There is a frequent ceasefire violation from across the border. The Pakistan rangers are targeting the civilian population on this side and due to heavy mortar shelling by Pakistan, there is a causalities in civil population especially population putting up near IB and LOC and this is against all international norms and conventions. The shelling is also causing huge loss of livestock of farmers which is one of their sources of income like agriculture. BSF of course, is giving a befitting reply to Pakistan in retaliation but Pakistan is hell bent to create instability especially in J&K. The BSF role is safe guarding the border has been so marvelous that it has repulsed and retreated so many intrusion in the past and took the militants with heavy hands. The Pakistan misadventure on the border is effectively retaliated by BSF jawans. The border is Zig Zag and at some places there are rivers, tributaries and deep gorges in hilly areas however, BSF jawans and officers are leaving no scope for militants to cross over this side there is three tier security cordon so chances of intrusion in plain areas is not an easy task for militants. But in hilly terrain some areas remain uncovered. Police and VDC members are also coordinating BSF in tackling this problem. The force is bring headed by highly qualified efficient IPS officers who have been proved very effective in handling more than 2.5 lakhs strong paramilitary force. The force has almost negligible Human Rights violation in its history of working with civilian and apart from this keeping very high reputation with people living in and around border areas. The force is frequently organizing medical and veterinary camps for farmers in the border area for giving health coverage to farmers and to their livestock as well. Besides this force is always extending helping hands to villages living close to IB and LOC. It is pertinent to mention here, that if a jawan of BSF while performing his legimate duties lays down his life for the sake of nation, the jawans is not declared as martys like in army.It is highly incredible and need immediate Central Govt. consideration BSF jawans are taking on with militants and nauxalites as and when they are given the task and sometimes these jawans never hesitate in laying down their precious life and even after giving supreme sacrifice they are not declared as martyrs. Recently one of the BSF jawan Rocky while fighting with militants at Samroli, Udhampur killed one of the two militants who attacked BSF bus bound for Kashmir and other militant Naved was caught alive. Had Rocky not killed the militant he (militant) would have killed more than 15 BSF men. So in fighting with militants Rocky laid down prime of his youth for the nation. He should have been declared as martyr but it is not there. We are lacking some eternal conscious and believe in different yardsticks for different martyrs. Apart from this, all paramilitary personals should be declared as ex-servicemen. Soon after their retirement like is being done in case of army personals. The border security force should not be included in paramilitary force like ITBP, CRPF, SSB, it should be declared as elite military force because the nature of routine duties of force is always safe guarding international border and line of control in J&K and elsewhere. The force duties are more tougher than Army and then BSF personals whether officers / jawans must be kept at par with army officers / jawans in respect of perks and other facilities so that morally they feel elevated. |
