Farmers hold protest against Govt, demand adequate rates of basmati. | | | Early Times Report Vijaypur, Oct 10: Annoyed over the negligent attitude of the Government, the people in Vijaypur today held massive protest demanding adequate rate to their basmati and other crops by the Government. Protest was held under the leadership JKPCC General Secretary Manjit Singh and raised slogans against the PDP-BJP Govt. alleging that the Govt.did not give them appropriate rates of the crops vis-à-vis rates of the market. The farmers clamoured. that the Govt. purchases the crops from them on cheap rates putting them to loss and making their living conditions miserable. Speaking on the occasion, Manjit Singh said that the Government should give adequate rate of the rice like Basmati and other crops to the farmers demanding that it should not be less than Rs 4000 per quintal. He further demanded compensation of Rs 20 lacs for those killed in cross border firing of Pak Rangers along the International Border and Rs 10 lacs for those got wounded He also demanded compensation for those famers whose fields were silted due to flash floods in Devak and Basanter which turned their fields uncultivatable adding that they deserve compensation at par with the those suffered losses due to flood in Kashmir .Later the protesters handed over a memorandum to SDM Vijaypur highlight all their demands |
