Early Time Report
Rajouri, Oct10: Except Jammu-Poonch highway all the major roads connecting tehsil headquarters with district headquarter (at Rajouri) and tehsil headquarters with remote areas are in deplorable conditions.
After several protests the work on Rajouri -Thanamandi road was started recently and Border Road Task Force (BRTF) has taken up the repair work. It is now hoped that the problem will be addressed.
Rajouri-Darhal road and Rajouri -Budhal roads are in dilapidated condition and the passengers including students and employees face difficulties during peak hours.
"Private transporters have reduced the frequency of their vehicles on these routes to avoid damages to their vehicles on these potholes filled and bumpy roads. For the last many months inhabitants /students of various schools and PG college from Budhal, Kotranka, Kandi, Mandargala etc (on Budhal route) and Darhal, Nadian, Raikibanh, Keora (on Darhal-Thanamandi routes) have been holding protest demonstrations.
"But despite several protest demonstrations , representations to Deputy Commissioner and concerned PWD (R&B) officials nothing has been done to mitigate the problems of the people" said Karamat Malik , social activist.
On Friday students and inhabitants of Kotranka, Kandi held a protest demonstration against PWD officials and district administration.People resented the bad condition of Rajouri - Budhal road which was damaged at several places in September 2014 flash floods following execution of widening work by the BRTF authorities.
"It is not feasible to move light four wheeler vehicles on this road following large potholes and uneven patches. Students and employees mostly get late to reach at the schools and offices in the absence of passenger vehicles and overloading " said Karim Baksh and Mohd Mushtaq.
"The matter has already been taken up with the senior BRO officials and it was hoped that soon the work on this road will be taken up by the BRTF’’ Bn looking after the area' said Sukhdev Singh, SDM, Kotranka zone.
Protesters have threatened a large scale protest demonstrations including closing of Rajouri-Budhal road if the work was not started soon by the BRTF.
