Early Times Report

Srinagar, Oct 15: Scoffing at its own prescribed rules, the state government without any justification has extended the services of influential Vice-Chancellor, Sher-i- Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences (SKUAST-K), DR Tej Pratap who had otherwise attained superannuation three months ago.
Governor N. N Vohra, who is the Chancellor of (SKUAST-K), hosted a farewell at the Raj Bhavan for Dr Tej who completed his 5 year tenure on July 23. It is worth mentioning that the 'otherwise retired' incumbent VC hit the headlines in 2011 for being involved in a purchase scam during his tenure as VC at the Chaudhary Sarvan Kumar Agricultural University at Palampur in Himachal Pradesh.
The report submitted by the enquiry committee into the purchase of "substandard gas heaters" suggested that Dr Pratap was evading inquiry and didn't even appear before the panel to clear his stand.
Official sources told Early Times that the state government has maintained status-quo with regards to the appointment of headless SKUAST. Sources said that Dr Pratap is serving the varsity even after retiring.
"It has been three months now since DR Pratap retired as VC SKUSAT-K. However, the state government seems in no mood to give the institution a new head. They said that the incumbent VC is using political approach to remain on the post of VC with state government showering bounties on him for unknown reasons. The deserving candidates talk about his involvement in heater scam and admission scam of 2010.
Acting on the admission scandal at the SK University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology - Kashmir (SKUAST-K), Governor NN Vohra, who is the varsity's chancellor sought a report from the vice-chancellor on the issue. DR Tej while defending the students who were admitted on selective basis had said "These were our own students who could not appear in the entrance due to the turmoil in 2010".
