PM to announce major package for J&K soon | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Oct 15: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is likely to announce a major financial package for Jammu and Kashmir particularly for the people affected by the 2014 floods. Modi has reportedly assured Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed that some more announcements with regard to the political development will also be made. According to sources, the CM stressed on the PM for the need to announce financial package for the state as a substantial time has lapsed since the formation of the BJP-PDP government, and its delay is a handle to the opposition to criticize the government. Sources said the PM assured that a financial package, which will be announced, will be inclusive for the overall development of the state and will also give boost to the development of the state. According to a top official, the PM was receptive to the idea of Mufti that friendly relations with Pakistan will have favourable affect in J&K. "The PM may ask for friendly relations with Pakistan but he is not likely to extend an olive branch to Islamabad. Modi will announce that peace in J&K can be mutually beneficial and two countries can resolve their differences," said the sources. "The PM has also asked the CM to send him major points which can be included in his speech which can help in changing the narrative of J&K and Indo-Pak relations in a positive manner," the sources said. "It was during the earlier tenure of Mufti Sayeed that the then PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee extended the hand of friendship to Pakistan and brought about a positive change in J&K. Modi may follow suit but unlike Vajpayee he will be a bit more assertive," the sources added. |
