Develops cordial relation with coalition Ministers, sponsors foreign trips | Delhi based business house eyes Centaur hotel | | Early Times Report Srinagar, Oct 15: A top business house in New Delhi is eyeing Centaur hotel on the banks of world famous Dal Lake here, sources told Early Times on Thursday. They said the business house has roped in most Ministers of the present BJP-PDP regime and has built a strong case to get the Centaur hotel on lease. "These days the business house is busy in making Ministers happy by sponsoring foreign trips and other errands for them," sources added. Insiders revealed that most Ministers in the coalition Government have already made up their mind to lease out the Centaur hotel to the influential business house in New Delhi. "A few directors of the business house have developed strong relations with the Ministers and the bureaucrats in Jammu and Kashmir," they added. Pertinently, proposal to lease out Centaur hotel to a private player was mooted by the erstwhile NC-Congress regime but after facing stiff opposition from the staffers of the hotel and trade unions previous regime shelved the proposal. The Centaur hotel is one of the oldest hotel in Srinagar located on the banks of Dal Lake. It houses famous SKICC auditorium. Sources said besides eyeing the Centaur hotel the Delhi based business house is also trying to bag important contracts by roping the Ministers holding different portfolios. "Most Ministers who visit New Delhi these days are enjoying the hospitality of the said business house and have assured its owners that they would be rewarded suitably and all their favours would be returned," they said. Insiders revealed that there is a proposal to lease out the Centaur hotel to an outside firm but so far nothing concrete has been done in this regard. "It's just a proposal and lot of work needs to be done before final decision about giving Centaur away is taken," they added. Officials said that when it comes to leasing out Centaur the best bidder would be chosen. "There is no possibility about it (Centaur) being leased out through backdoor or it going to a particular private player," they added. Sources said the Ministers who are enjoying the hospitality of the New Delhi based business house have promised the owners that "It's their (Ministers) responsibility to get their file cleared," they added. A leader of a ruling party while talking to Early Times said, "We have heard that Centaur would be leased out, but we don't know which business house you are talking about. As far as I know if Centaur is leased out proper procedures would be followed and a deserving party would get the contract." On being told that Ministers of the ruling coalition have already chosen the party that would get Centaur, the leader said, "It's unfortunate and sad if our Ministers and leaders have made up their mind to lease out the prized asset of the State to return the favours of the New Delhi based business house." Interestingly, during the past two months many Ministers of PDP-BJP have visited different foreign countries and have even enjoyed holidays in different parts of the country. When a top official was contacted, to ascertain, who is spending money on the trips being undertaken by the Ministers, he said, "We are not supposed to disclose the secret information to media." |
