Modi blames opposition for using minorities as vote bank | | | Even when Prime Minister,Narendra Modi, described as unfortunate and regrettable Dadri incident,in which one Muslim was lynched after rumour surfaced that he had slaughtered a cow,and the cancellation of noted Pakistani Gazal singer Ghulam Ali's concert in Mumbai, the Congress has criticised the Prime Minister's remarks that his Government had nothing to do with the Dadri lynching and cancellation of Ghulam Ali's Mumbai concert, saying it is not appropriate for the Centre to wash its hands off by saying that it had no role to play.In UP,where Dadri incident had taken place, there is Samajwadi party Government and in Maharasthra there is a coalition Government of BJP and Shiv Sena. Since Shiv Sena played the main role in forcing the organizers to call off Ghulam Ali's concert the BJP found itself helpess. In UP neither the BJP nor the NDA Government had any say in the law and order which is in the jurisdiction of the state Governments. Still the Congress relishes giving a dig at Modi. When Modi did not say anything on the two issues the Congress was in the forefront of those who kept on berating Prime Minister for his silence. And when he spoke on the two issues the same Congress blamed him for trying to absolve himself of the responsibility. " Accusing the Opposition of indulging in pseudo secularism and politics of polarisation, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has described the Dadri lynching incident and the cancellation of Ghulam Ali's concert in Mumbai as "unfortunate", but said his Government has nothing to do with them.He also accused the opposition of using minorities as vote bank by raising the bogey of communalism. The Dadri incident or opposition to Pakistani singer is undesirable and unfortunate. But what is the Central Government's relation with these incidents. This is the first time that the Prime Minister has spoken directly on the Dadri incident, where a Muslim man was killed over rumours of beef eating, though last week he had made a strong plea that Hindus and Muslims should not fight each other but poverty. He had also referred to the President's call for maintaining India's core values of tolerance and mutual respect. On his party's stand (on such incidents), Modi said, "The BJP never supported such kind of incidents. The Opposition is raising the bogey of communalism against the BJP by bringing those incidents, but are they themselves not doing politics of polarisation. He has said, such debate has taken place in the past. The BJP always opposed pseudo-secularism. Now again this debate is taking place in the face of unfortunate social malaise. He believes that this debate can be resolved through dialogue and discussion. " But the opposition in the country believes that its job is to oppose, tooth and nail. The opposition in India does not believe in playing a constructive role possibly it believes that kicking up communal turmoil or any other conflict and controversy could shorten the life of Modi led Government. Well one should ponder over the rise of new wave of communalism in India soon after the voters in the country voted the BJP to power in the Centre. Yes, there have been bigger conal clashes in some parts of India during the time Congress remained in power but the rise of issues linked with ban on beef eating and demand for revocation of ban on slaughter of bovine animals has assume serious dimensions. One cannot blame only the opposition and Pakistani agencies for triggering these issues and conflicts because there are some senior BJP leaders who have been issuing statements and dishing out sermons which flare up communal tension. Yes,Modi led Government is not responsible for either the Dadri incident or the one in Mumbai but as Prime Minister he should initiate measures for keeping those BJP leaders, under check, who incite passions among people. |
