Early Times Report Srinagar, Oct 15: In an effort to address traffic mess in Srinagar and Jammu, Jammu and Kashmir Police is organizing a mega seminar and has invited various experts to deliberate on the issue. Additional Director General of Police (Armed) S M Sahai, while addressing a press conference here at APHQ Srinagar said that a seminar, organized by the Institution of Studies, Learning and Analysis(ISLA), an NGO,to be inaugurated by the Chief Minister Mufti Muhammad Sayeed on October 17 at SKICC. He said that in this seminar discussion would be held to find a way out to ease out massive traffic pressure on the Srinagar and Jammu cities. "J&K has been facing problems of traffic management since long. Of late, the capital cities, Srinagar and Jammu have seen upsurge in the vehicular traffic. Rising number of vehicles couple with inadequate infrastructure are causing huge traffic congestions in cities and national highways," Sahai said. He said that we have studied the traffic in the capital cities through drones and the documentary that has been prepared will be shown during the seminar so that all the stakeholders get an idea of traffic in J&K and the problems that lead to frequent congestion. Sahai said that there will be three business in the seminar during which discussions will take place among experts, panelists and other stake holders. "The aim is that both short and long term measures could be visualized to overcome the problem of traffic congestion," he said. The director ISLA said that the first session of seminar will be on the topic infrastructure and Sudeep Gupta, Deputy General Manager (DGM), Rail India Technical and Economic Services Ltd. (RITES) will be the expert exchanges his ideas along with other panelists. "The other panelists of this session would be Er Satish Kumar Razdan, Chief Engineer PWD, R&B Kashmir and Iftikhar Ahmad, Chief Town Planner Srinagar," he said. "In second session, the topic will be Safety and Dr Rohit Baluja, President Indian Road Transport Education (IRTE) and Director College of Traffic Management, Faridabad would be the expert. The other panelists of this session are Dr. Saleem-ur-Rehman, Project Director AIDS Control Society, J&K, Shri M Ashraf, Former Director General Tourism, Expert on Road Engineering from NIT Hazratbal." During third session, Sahai said the discussion will take place on the topic of Regulation. "Dr P S Pasricha, former Director General of Police, Maharashtra will be the expert. The other panelists of this session are G N War, President Private School Association Kashmir, Arun Joshi, Journalist, Shri Alok Kumar and IPS, DIG Traffic Kashmir," he said. Sahai said that the seminar would witness the participation of all stake holders related to management of traffic in J&K like Engineers, Police, Town Planners, traders, Civil Society Activists, people from Tourism, School Administration, Doctors, Transporters, Students, Hawkers, Roadside vendors etc. "The effort would be so that the participants can come up with suggestions and recommendations to help us in streamlining the traffic in the State," he said. In valedictory session, Minister for Public Works, Floriculture, Gardens and Parks Syed Muhammad Altaf Bukhari will be the Chief Guest while as Muhammad Ashraf Mir, Hon'ble MoS for I&C, PDD, H&UDD and Pawan Kumar Gupta, MoS for Finance and IT will be Guests of Honour. "The valedictory function is scheduled at 4:15 p.m," he said. Sahai further said that in valedictory, the reports of all the three sessions would be presented so that measures to streamline the traffic in the state could the enumerated. |
