Billawar, Oct 19 : Government Degree College, Billawar organized a symposium on the topic Gandhi and Secularism on October on Monday. According to press release, a large number of students participated and spoke on topic. The performances of the participants were adjudged by the jury comprised by Prof. Satishwer Singh, Prof. Sanjeev Gupta and Prof. Joginder Kumar on the basis of Content, Diction and Pronunciation. Jasmine Ali of B.A Part-III stood first and Manvi Gupta and Paru Pariya secured second and third positions respectively. The students passionately threw light on the Gandhian philosophy of secularism that envisages pluralism, tolerance and coexistence as far as religious diversity of India is concerned. In the end, Dr. Nater Singh, Principal of the college thanked the Debates/Symposia committee for organizing the symposium on such an important and current issue that forms the core of Indian civilization. In his address, he expressed that Gandhiji symbolizes the ethos of Indian secularism which extends equal treatment to all the religions and thus does not confer dominant status to any particular religion.
