srinagar, Oct 19: Non-performing Ministers of the ruling People's Democratic Party (PDP) are likely to be shown the door, Early Times has learnt.
PDP president and Member Parliament, Mehbooba Mufti, has called a party meeting on Wednesday in the backdrop of series of complaints received about party Ministers who are not living up to the expectations of the people.
There are several Ministers from the PDP who were accorded vital portfolios at the time of the Government formation in March this year. "But with the passage of time, there has been no major development witnessed within several Ministries," said sources.
"As per complaints received by the party, the people have expressed anger over the delay in addressing their grievances by certain PDP Ministers. There are some Cabinet as well as the Ministers of the State (MoS) who have shown dismal performances," said sources.
"The non-performing Ministers are likely to be axed soon and the issues would be discussed threadbare during the meeting. Besides, new faces would be inducted in the Government," a PDP leader told Early Times.
Mehbooba has asked all of her party functionaries including office bearers, MPs, MLAs, MLCs, Ministers, senior leaders, zonal presidents, districts and tehsil presidents to attend the meeting on October 21 at her residence here.
Sources however quashed reports which had suggested that Mehbooba has called the meeting to discuss the party's alliance with the BJP.
"There are internal party matters which merit concern. We have been receiving complaints that the common masses have not expressed satisfaction over the performance of some Ministers which has direct bearing on ground. The meeting will take call over these issues and it is most likely that some new faces will be given the responsibility to take charge of some vital posts," the PDP leader said.
Sources said the meeting would also discuss how to take a unanimous stand on all important issues related to the party and the functioning of the Government.
Notably, many PDP leaders like Muzaffar Hussain Beigh and Tariq Hameed Karra have been critical of the PDP and its policies since the party formed Government with the support of the BJP in March this year.
Beigh and Karra, who represent Baramulla and Srinagar constituency, respectively, in the Parliament, have been indirectly targeting Naeem Akhtar and Haseeb Drabu, two senior PDP leaders and close aides of Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed.
Karra, in particular, is aggressively vocal. Almost on daily basis he is seen firing salvos at Akhtar, Drabu and the Muftis, too, for the 'unholy alliance' with the BJP and wants them to end it.
