Situation "worsens" as BJP abandons its ideology to taste power in J&K

Early Times Report
jammu, Oct 19: The people of Jammu province, who have suffered the most after February this year at the hands of the BJP, are a worried lot. They feel that "the situation in J&K has worsened after BJP abandoned its ideology to taste power in the State and grab political space in the valley" and that "if some corrective measures were not taken at the earliest, Jammu province would witness a serious situation". They feel that the powers, who were active in Kashmir at the time of exodus of Kashmiri Pandits, are spreading their tentacles to Jammu also. They are holding BJP responsible for what has been happening in Kashmir and in Jammu province for many months now. "BJP is responsible for the present State of affairs," they said.
"In the late 1980s, the authorities allowed the situation to deteriorate in the valley and the result was the persecution of minorities like Kashmiri Hindus. The situation by early 1990 deteriorated to the extent that the entire minority community of Kashmiri Hindus migrated to Jammu and other parts of the country. Today, Kashmir is a virtually reduced to one-community region," said a J&K watcher. What he said was also endorsed by many others. They asserted that "things have worsened in the State" and that "it is the duty of the political class in Jammu to defeat all those regressive and intolerant forces which are hell-bent to disturb the situation in Jammu province to further their sinister sectarian agenda".
The fear of the minorities in Jammu province is well-founded considering what the pro-Pakistan Kashmiri separatists have been doing to radicalize the polity and society for years now. One can only hope and pray that the Jammu's political class would take serious cognizance of this fear and do everything to avert the impending disaster. It is also hoped that BJP would review its whole approach towards the State in general and the minorities in particular as well as Jammu province taking into consideration the present J&K situation and play the role it used to play before coming to power in the State. The BJP is in power in the State and at the Centre and it has to ensure that peace was not disturbed by Pak agents in Jammu region which is the nation's backbone in the militancy and separatist-infested J&K.
