Early Times Report jammu, Oct 19: Even as big controversies continue to hit PDP-BJP coalition in Jammu and Kashmir, opposition Congress is no more excited over apparent blockades before smooth running of the Mufti Sayeed led Government. Unlike its earlier pro-active response to each and every controversy, which had posed an apparent threat to the coalition Government, opposition Congress is now learnt to have adopted wait and watch policy towards the political developments in the State. The decision in this regard was taken by the party following a feed back and an advisory by the senior leaders, according to which, the pro-active role of Congress in flaring up issues like AIIMS agitation, was sending wrong signal among the general masses. "No doubt BJP has been continuously losing ground among masses after it assumed power in the State, but this anti-Government sentiment has not yet turned into a pro- Congress wave," admitted a senior Congress leader and former Minister. Further, he added, the active participation of Congress in AIIMS movement also sent a wrong signal among the people of Jammu, who had started smelling a rat in the entire agitation. Another major factor, which forced the party to go slow on anti-BJP protests, was the feedback that Congress was showing signs of frustration for being out of power in Jammu and Kashmir after 12 years, sources explained. Amidst this feedback, sources said that the party high command also advised the State unit not to expect an imminent fall of the coalition Government due to cracks between the ruling alliance partners as both PDP and BJP can not afford to quit power at this stage. The party leaders have been asked to rejuvenate Congress at ground level instead of dreaming about return to power immediately, sources added. In the wake of these feedback and advisory, sources said that the State Congress leaders have now preferred to maintain a wait and watch policy vis-a-vis functioning of State Government and therefore a virtual lull is likely to be witnessed in the opposition party in the next few months. |
