early times report Doda, Oct 19: Krishi Vigyan Kendra SKUAST-J, Doda (Bhaderwah)took initiative in promoting backyard poultry farming in the district by assisting farmers in setting up small scale, low-input high producing backyard poultry units at farmers' householdat village Kalota. According to press release, the programme was conducted under the overall guidance of Dr. K.S. Risam, Director Extension, SKUAST-J; coordinated by Dr R.S. Bandral, Programme Coordinator, Dr. B. Brahma; Dr. Narinder Paul, scientists from KVK Doda and Dr Munish Sharma. A series of programmes that included motivation and training of farmers to undertake the small scale backyard poultry units were conducted by Dr. B. Brahma and Dr. Narinder Paul. Improved Cha-Bro chicks were provided to the farmers by the KVK and 50 small scale backyard poultry units have been established in Kalota. Dr. B. Brahma explained to the farmers thespecialty of this multipurpose breed of backyard poultry that requires low-inputs, but has faster growth rate and good laying potential, and also provided a detail account of care and management of birds. Related queries from the farmers regarding housing and disease management were also explained in detail. |
