early times report Kathua, Oct 19: An awareness programme on Road Safety was organized by the Motor Vehicle Department Kathua, at Government Higher Secondary School Nagri Parole on the theme "Make Safety a Habit". According to press release, on this occasion, Ramesh Kumar (IAS), Deputy Commissioner, Kathua who was the Chief Guest advised the students to follow the safety norms as District Kathua is witnessing the high accident rate on account of Rash and negligent Driving particularly on the national highway. He advised the students to make maximum use of public transport and stay away from Drugs. He also spoke on declining sex ratio of District Kathua and emphasized the role of girls in imparting awareness on Road Safety and other Social issues and asked them to start education from the house and spread the tips learned with their parents, family and friends. RTO, Kathua Amarjeet Singh (KAS) apprised the students that 1.2 million people die in road accidents every year worldwide. In India one accident takes place every minutes and one person dies in road accident every four minutes. About 2 to 3 % of Gross National Product is lost in these road accidents. Some students also spoke on this occasion on road safety. While interacting with the media, Deputy Commissioner, Kathua informed that the best way to inculcate the safety habits is through awareness programmes only and such camps shall be organized regularly in different institutions to make our roads safer. |
