2 cops among 7 hurt in clashes at Anantnag | | | Saahil Suhail

Anantnag, Oct 21: Seven persons, including two cops, were today wounded in clashes with protesters in Anantnag and Bijbehara areas of the valley. Naseer Ahmad Dar, a resident of Zurpora, Bijbehara, who was injured after a teargas shell hit him on the head, was evacuated to Sher-e-Kashmir institute of Medical Sciences, Soura, Srinagar, where his condition was said to be out of danger. Official sources said despite restrictions, stone pelters clashed with police at Khanabal-Pahalgam Chowk, Lazibal, Anchidora, Janglat Mandi and others Anantnag areas. The cops used tear smoke shells and pellet guns to quell the stone throwers. Many of the protesters were said to have sustained minor injuries. Locals alleged that during clashes, police and CRPF personnel smashed window panes of residential houses in Kadipora and Janglat Mandi areas of the town. They alleged that some teargas shells landed in residential areas, causing problems to the people. Meanwhile, two policemen also sustained minor injuries after they came under stone pelting in Sarnal area of Anantnag town. Clashes between the cops and stone pelters continued till late this evening in the district. Sources revealed to Early Times that authorities in Anantnag had decided to impose strict restrictions in the district for next 48 hours for maintaining law and order situation. Pertinently, Anantnag is witnessing law and order problem after the death of truck conductor Zahid Rasool Bhat who was attacked by a group of miscreants along with two others at Udhampur on October 9. Udamphur district administration has slapped Public safety act on all those involved in the attack and booked them in a murder case. The state government has announced Rs 5 lakh ex-gratia and a government job to one person of his family. |
