Tangmarag gunfight: HM militant killed, 3 jawans injured | Search operation underway | | S.Tahir-ul Haq

TANGMARAG, Oct 21: One militant of Hizbul Mujahideen was killed and three Army jawans were injured in a gun battle between security forces and militants in Kunzer of Tangmarg area in Baramulla district of north Kashmir on Wednesday. A senior police official told Early Times that, on a tip off about the presence of 2-3 militants in Bongam village in Tangmarag area, after which a joint team of Army, police and Special Operation Group (SOG) cordoned off the area. "Security forces surrounded a house in Bongam village of Tangmarg tehsil following specific information about a group of militants hiding inside the house, said the official. The official said, as the searches were being carried out, hiding militants opened fire at around 7 am triggering a gunfight. As the operation progressed to track down militants whose presence was reported in the morning, contact was established and a fierce gun battle ensued which continued intermittently through the day, official added. Additional deployment of troops has been rushed to the area as security forces suspect more militants hiding in the area. However official further said that, in the operation so far which is still continuing, one heavily armed militant of Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) outfit was eliminated who has been identified as Nisar Ahmad Wani S/O Ali Mohammad Wani R/O Aadipora Kunzer of Tangmarag thesil from whose procession a large quantity of arms, ammunition and other war like stores have been recovered. Three Army Jawans also sustained injuries during the gun fight that were immediately evacuated to 92 Base Hospital Srinagar for the advanced treatment, where the condition of one of the injured jawan is stated to be critical. While as it was also ensured that no damage is caused to the locals of the area, said the official. He said the Operation was undertaken by the Army's 2 Rashtriya Rifles (RR) and SOG with utmost care to ensure safety to the residents of the area with minimum inconvenience to the locals. Meanwhile Srinagar based Defence spokesperson Col NN Joshi, confirmed to early times that, one militant of HM outfit, Nisar Wani has been killed in the gunfight, adding that three Army Jawans also sustained injuries during the gun fight that were immediately evacuated to 92 Base Hospital Srinagar for the advanced treatment. The search operation is still continuing, till the last reports came in, Joshi added. |
