Enjoys power, fails to defend his "elder brother's" party in JK | Vocal Sajad Lone turns silent | | Early Times Report SRINAGAR, Oct 21: Separatist turned mainstream politician Sajad Gani Lone has gone into oblivion since the day he became the Minister. He has not uttered a word over the controversies which have triggered heated debates in Jammu and Kashmir during the past few months. There are speculations that Sajad has been busy visiting foreign countries and he is reaping the fruits of power. "Sajad was not happy when he was given the Sheep and Animal Husbandry Ministry. He resisted in the beginning but later he resigned to his fate," revealed a source. Interestingly, Sajad didn't attend the recent Autumn session of the Legislative Assembly in Srinagar. Sajad, according to the sources, was holidaying in London and had asked his subordinates to answer the queries if any raised by the legislators. Sajad Lone had created sensation in 2014 by meeting the Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi. After meeting Modi, Sajad had described the Prime Minister as his "elder brother." Soon after winning two seats in the Assembly elections in 2014, Sajad announced that he would go with BJP come what may. Some people had even started claiming that Sajad would become the face of BJP in Kashmir but it did not happen. After Peoples Democratic Party and BJP decided to join hands in Jammu and Kashmir and form the coalition Government, PDP had reportedly opposed the cabinet berth to Sajad Lone, but he was inducted into the Mufti cabinet after the personal intervention of the Prime Minister Narendra Modi as he (PM) wanted to ensure that his "younger brother" is rewarded for siding with BJP. However, since the day Sajad has become the Minister, he has not uttered a word about his relationship with BJP nor has he made any attempt to meet the Prime Minister again. He has remained quiet and has chosen not to react to the criticism being faced by BJP in the State. It seems the elder-younger brother relationship has turned sour. Since the day BJP has assumed the power in the State it has faced scathing attacks from the opposition, Sajad during all these months has never made an effort to defend BJP and his Prime Minister Modi, whom he had described as his "elder brother" not long ago. Like Sajad none of the BJP Ministers during the past six months have dared to utter a word. One wonders why BJP and Sajad, who was inducted into the cabinet on BJP quota, are silent. Is it they want to ignore the opposition or they are too busy in enjoying power. Like BJP Ministers a battery of the party spokesmen, barring Khalid Jehangir, too has gone in "silent mode." Sajad and BJP Ministers have proven the political Pundits wrong. Many people had predicted that Sajad would become the "voice and face" of the saffron party in Kashmir, besides they were expecting that BJP Ministers would vociferously react to the developments. Analysts believe that BJP leaders and Sajad Lone would have to pay a heavy price for remaining silent and for ignoring the developments which have been taking place in Jammu and Kashmir. They need to wake up before it's too late. |
