Minor drowns in local rivulet in Samroli | | | Early Times Report
Udhampur, Oct 21: In a tragic happening enthusiasm of a minor to attend a marriage ceremony of relatives turned into mourning when the minor (4yrs) girl drowned in Samroli area of Udhampur district when she was crossing a local rivulet at Kaw Morh (Sarmoli) on her way to Udhampur to attend a ceremony. Police sources have identified deceased as Namita (4) d/o Romesh Kumar of Chak Pakhlai. According to the police sources, the above said minor girl Namita was coming with her grandfather from Pakhlai to Udhampur to attend a marriage ceremony of relative at udhampur. On reaching Kaw Morh, both the grandfather and the grand-daughter had to cross the local rivulet but the girl failed to catch hold of the hand of her grandfather and slipped into deep water. Although the grandfather raised alarm for help but it was too late and minor was washed away in fast water currents and drowned. Locals who rushed to the spot to help the wailing person also informed the police which rushed to the spot and started a rescue cum search operation. After a hectic search operation the police team fished out minor in unconscious condition and immediately shifted her to District Hospital (DH) Udhampur where doctors declared her brought dead. Later after legal formalities and postmortem of the body, the police handed over the body to family members for her last rites. |
