Overloading goes unabated in & around Sunderbani | | | Neeraj Sharma
Early Times Report
Sunderbani, Oct 21: It seems private transporters yet have not learnt any lesson from various fatal accidents including the recent Ramnagar road tragedy in which 14 persons were killed and 17 others were injured as the over loading is still a routine on the various link roads and within the Sunderbani town courtesy alleged unholy nexus of traffic police and the transporters. Buses, minibuses and small passenger magic vehicles are often seen over loaded on various city routes and nothing has changed on ground except statements by the officials whose hollow claims have fallen flat on ground zero. "It is a known fact now that the Traffic Police is hand in glove with the transporters who are plying buses and minibuses who indulge in overloading of the passenger vehicles", alleged ABVP SVS College unit President Monika Sharma while demanding strict action against overloaded vehicles. Another local lamented that mini bus operators, particularly in rural areas, had also resorted to various tactics to create more space than the seating capacity in their vehicles by extending some extra angle iron to hang on but putting passenger's life at the risk. "Overloading has become a routine menace in rural areas," said Rajesh Kumar Kangri. He said that leave aside minibuses and buses, heavy overloading is even noticed in newly introduced 'tempos' which carry over 20 passengers in rural areas especially at the peak hours but district and police authorities yet have to wake up from deep slumber. "It seems the authorities including traffic police yet has to take due lessons from various fatal road accidents, he said adding, " perhaps they are waiting similar tragedy to happen in Sunderbani. Humming similar tones over the issue, Rajiv Sharma, a resident of Sunderbani remarked that due to non-availability of government-controlled public transport, the private bus and mini bus operators always try to make good profit by resorting to overloading as they know the public has no option but to travel through private modes of transportation. He also added despite various awareness camps and programmes held on traffic management by the police the overloading goes unabated and without any fear of police or administration. |
