Million march foiled but people gain from Modi's visit
11/8/2015 11:33:01 PM
Separatists had planned a "million march" to counter Prime Minister, Narendra Modi's visit to Srinagar on Saturday. These separatists lost the game because of the stringent measures taken by the state Government but people in Jammu and Kashmir seem to have gained by the commitment Modi made during his address to the rally.Well there were cheers from the people who had gathered in the cricket stadium when Modi announced a package of Rs.80,000 crores for the state.Out of these Rs.80,000 crores Rs.8,000 crores were to be spent on compensation to those people who had suffered losses in the floods that had hit the state in September 2014. About Rs.50,000 crores are to be utilized on the development and rebuilding of the infrastructure. Well more than the quantum of financial aid Modi endered himself to the people of the state when he announced that he too would be following the former Prime Minister,Atal Behari Vajpayee's three letter formula by sticking to the promotion of "Kashmiriyat,Insaaniyat and Zamh-ooriyat" Zamhoriyat ( Kashmiri cultural ethos, humanity and democracy)The way he laid emphasis on the development of various sectors for increasing food production. employment avenues, tourism sector, industry and sports is bound to ensure all round development of the state of Jammu and Kashmir. Modi on Saturday announced a Rs.80,000 crore economic package for the development of Jammu and Kashmir. As soon as Mr. Modi made the announcement, the large gathering of people who had come to hear him broke into a joyous rapture at the Sher-e-Kashmir cricket stadium.Announcing the much awaited economic package that will cover relief for 2014 flood victims, farmers, businessmen, tourism, youth employment and infrastructure in the state, Mr. Modi said: "This is not the end, but the beginning.""Not only Delhi's treasures, but Delhi's 'Dil' (heart) is always for the people of Kashmir", Modi said.. Modi also said that he wanted to make Kashmir a dream destination for tourists. And in this connection he announced a liberal financial assistance for reducing the travel time on Srinagar-Jammu highway which would make tourists' journey to Kashmir convenient. Stressing on the development of Jammu and Kashmir, Modi said: "We will spend Rs.34,000 crore on Jammu-Srinagar Highway. It will cut the journey time from 12 hours to three-and-a-half hours."He also said that the centre would assist the state in developing new tourist resorts and in modernizing handloom and handicraft sector From Modi's address to people in Srinagar one could read two messages. First,he did not seem to be yet prepared to extend hand of friendship to Pakistan so that the stalled process of bilateral dialogue was resumed. This became evident when the Prime Minister ignored strong plea made by Chief Minister,Mufti Mohd.Sayeed, who had stated that as big brother India could become a world power if it promoted cordial ties with Pakistan. He had suggested to Modi that India should initiate measures for reopening the channels of dialogue for promoting friendly relations with Pakistan and it was for Islamabad to respond to such offer or reject it.
Second message was for people and separatists.Modi has made a firm commitment of providing liberal funds to the state of Jammu and Kashmir for developing various sectors and for proper utilization of these funds there was need for a conducive atmosphere. Hence separatists and people in Kashmir have the responsibility of creating an atmosphere which was conducive for development failing which central funds would get waste. And this very conducive atmosphere could help the concerned agencies in organizing international cricket ties for which the stadium, where Modi addressed people, was ready. And it for the people to support Modi's mantra "Sab Kaa Sath Sab Ka Vikas."
