3 Hizb militants killed in Anantnag | Major setback for Burhan's module: Army | | Saahil Suhail Anantnag, Nov23: Army and police in a joint operation on Monday gunned down three militants affiliated with Hizbul Mujahideen outfit in Sligam area of Anantnag district. Trio, believed to be lieutenants of Hizbcommander Burhan Wani, were killed in a brief encounter after they fired on a search party comprising troopers from 3RR and SOG Anantnag. Official sources said that at around 2:30 pm, a joint party of army and SOG cordoned off the TantaryporaSligam village after receiving input about the presence of militants in the area. They said that during the search, militant hiding in a residential house fired upon the troops ensuing fierce gun battle between the militants and security forces. "Although they (militants) succeeded in breaking down the cordon, we chased them and killed three militants in open filed outside the village," SOG man who participated in the operation told this reporter at encounter site. He said that one militant who according to him received injures managed to flee from the spot. Police sources identified the slain militants as Adil Ahmad Sheikh s/o Abdullah Sheikh R/o Bijbehara, Abid Ahmad s/o Farooq Ahmad Sheikh r/o Satkipora and Sartaj Ahmad Lone s/o Ghulam Ahmad Lone r/o Wapzan. Trio, according to sources had recently joined the militant ranks and were close confidents of Hizb Commander Burhan Wani. They said that three along with Aaamir who escaped from the spot were trying recruit youth in Ashmuqam-Pahalgam area. 2 AK47 rifles, one UBGL and one Pistol have been recovered from the possession of slain militants. Commander 1 Sector RR, Brigadier AnmolSood confirmed to Early Times that they have gunned down three militants. "After receiving input an operation was launched jointly with police. So far bodies of three militants have been retrieved from the spot," he said. He said that with the killing of three militant, Hizb commander BurhanWani's group has received a major setback. "This operation is major setback for BurhanWani's module as they (slain) were trying to reactivate and recruit militants in the area," he said, however he couldn't reveal the identity of slain militants. Locals told Early Times that they witness an encounter between militants and security forces after a gap of eleven years. "This area which is route to Amarnath holy cave is almost peaceful," they said. |
