After major flop shows, BJP elects constituency in-charges for Kashmir | Opportunity to 'pull out money' from central leadership | | Early Times Report
Srinagar, Nov 23: After the much hyped "flop shows" like Maha sampark programme and membership drive which proved to be a damp squib, the BJP has now started electing constituency incharges and district presidents in Kashmir to ostensibly seek more funds from the central leadership. For past two days BJP Kashmir unit has been issuing statements claiming that party workers have elected district presidents and constituency in charges. "BJP's Kashmir unit is under tremendous pressure to perform as central leadership has made it clear to the leaders and activists that they should strive to ensure that BJP open sits account in Kashmir in the forth coming Urban Local Bodies (ULB) polls," said a source. He said the leaders of BJP's Kashmir unit have reportedly told the workers to make their presence felt on the ground so that they are able to get in some funds from the central leadership on the pretext of making the party strong. Sources said the BJP high command has taken a serious note of the "under performance" of the BJP leaders in Kashmir and they have been put on ultimatum. "If you can't deliver you can quit. We can bring the young faces on forefront," sources quoted one of the top BJP leaders as having said. Insiders revealed that BJP leaders from Kashmir are on tenterhooks but some of them, according to the sources, believe it's an opportunity to seek funds from the central leadership. "BJP central leadership had pumped in millions of rupees into Kashmir during the last assembly elections as they were assured by the BJP leaders in Kashmir that party would win eight to ten seats in the Valley and BJP would form the government on its own in J&K. However, results of assembly election punctured the Mission 44 plus of the BJP as party failed to open its account in Kashmir." Insiders claimed that Kashmir BJP leaders were "punished" by the party high command for party's failure in the Valley as a few leaders whowere expecting that they would be nominated as MLCs or they would be adjusted as chairmen of the boards had to eat a humble pie. "These leaders were told in clear terms that they have to become workers first and then dream about getting coveted positions," sources said. They said the BJP candidates who lost the 2014 Assembly elections in Kashmir had made a beeline in New Delhi and were demanding that they should be compensated for putting up a "brave show." "These defeated candidates had to cut a sorry figure when the party high command asked them to give the details of the expenses they had incurred during elections. Most of them failed to give the breakup of the money they had spent." sources added. They claimed that BJP leaders are eyeing ULB polls as they believe these could be big money spinners and would provide a golden opportunity for many Kashmiri leaders to regroup and pull money from the party high command. "BJP leaders had succeeded in pulling out lot of money on the name of membership drive and Maha sampark programme and now they are trying todo the same," sources added. |
