Impressive 'Nagar Kirtan' procession taken out to mark birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev Ji

Jammu, Nov 23: To celebrate the birth anniversary of Shri Guru Nanak Dev Ji, an impressive Nagar Kirtan procession was taken out in Jammu city today with great enthusiasm. The birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev Ji falls on November 25.
The procession was organized by District Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee Jammu in which a large number of Sikh devotees from all age groups participated.
Religious fervour today gripped the city as thousands of devotees irrespective of their age from all parts of the region participated in the Nagar Kirtan procession. The procession started from historical Gurdwara Maharani Chand Kour and culminated at Gurdwara Nanak Nagar, where special prayers were performed by the Sikh Sangat.
Since early morning the Sikh devotees were seen thronging the historical Gurdwara Maharani Chand Kour to participate in the Nagar Kirtan procession. They were carrying banners, flags, buntings and placards. Amid slogans like 'Jo Boley So Nehal…., Wahe Guruji Ka Khalsa Wahe Guruji Ki Fateh', the procession passed through Jewel Chowk, Dogra Chowk, Bikram Chowk, Asia Crossing, Green Belt Park, Gole Market Gandhi Nagar before culminating at Gurdwara Nanak Nagar. The children dressed as 'Panj Pyaras' led different Kirtan parties and 'Jathas' gave a different look to the procession. Various schools were also participated in the Nagar Kirtan. Students of schools with their bands were giving more colour to the Nagar Kirtan procession. Students of some schools were dressed up in traditional dresses. Vehicles carrying holy Shri Guru Granth Sahib were specially decorated with flowers while sangat were reciting ' holy Shabad kirtan.
Exceptional and tremendous items of fireworks, Gatka (the traditional martial art) were presented by the Sikh youths which received great applause and drew maximum attraction. The main programme was held at Gurudwara Nanak Nagar, where Sikh preachers highlighted teachings of Guru Nanak Dev ji and called upon the people to follow the teachings of great Gurus, who sacrificed their lives for upholding the Dharma. The district administration had made elaborate arrangements for the Yatra as no vehicular traffic was allowed to pass on Nagar Kirtan route. A large number of police personnel were deployed on the route of the procession to avoid any untoward incident.
