12/7/2015 11:24:51 PM
Agencies
new delhi, Dec 7: The Government of India today said the route survey and Detailed Feasibility Report (DFR) has been completed for laying Bhatinda-Jammu-Srinagar gas pipeline.
In a written reply to a question regarding the status of the Bhatinda-Jammu-Srinagar gas pipeline project, raised by Member Parliament, Mehbooba Mufti in the Lok Sabha, the Union Petroleum Minister has stated that out of 720 KMs of ground to be covered by the gas pipeline, 460 KMs have been notified under Section 3(1) of P&MP Act for acquisition of Right of Use (RoU).
The Petroleum Minister said that the Petroleum and Natural Gas Regulatory Board (PNGRB) had, on 07-07-2011, authorized Gujarat State Petronent Ltd (GSPL), a subsidiary of Gujarat Government, to lay Bhatinda-Jammu-Srinagar gas pipeline to ensure supply of natural gas for industrial, commercial and domestic use in Jammu and Kashmir.
Subsequently, he said, the PNGRB transferred the authorization for laying the pipeline in favour of GSPL India Gasnet Ltd (GIGL), a consortium comprising GSPL, Indian Oil Corporation Ltd, Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd and Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd.
The Minister said that the consortium has been given 36 months, from the date of issue of authorization, for the commissioning of the Bhatinda-Jammu-Srinagar gas pipeline.
The gas pipeline will consist of main gas trunk from Bhatinda to Srinagar passing through Kathua, Samba, Jammu, Udhampur, Ramban, Anantnag, Pulwama and Srinagar. There will be hundreds of sub-lines which will supply gas to the consumers at their houses.
The gas pipeline would make possible round-the-clock LPG supply to Kashmir which faces frequent shortage of cooking gas in winters due to closure of Srinagar-Jammu highway.
The project would also boost the economic activity in the region by promoting industrial growth and power generation.
