Now, Akbar Lone thrashes his voters | | | Javaid Naikoo Early Times Report srinagar, Dec 7: National Conference's MLA from Sumbal Sonawari, Akbar Lone is in news again. A group of people from his constituency have alleged that he thrashed them after they demanded basic facilities in return of their votes. People from Sumbal, Sonawari area protested in Srinagar on Monday against the alleged highhandedness of their MLA and former Education Minister Akbar Lone and demanded stern action against him and his workers. Rasing anti-Akbar and anti-NC slogans, the people alleged that the MLA and his workers beat them to pulp, abused them and threatened them when they approached him to redress their grievances. "Is it a sin to demand your basic rights? It seems yes it is in a constituency where people like our MLA Akbar Lone live. We ignore every challenge to elect people like him to redress our problems and now when we demand our rights we are abused and threatened. Is there anybody who will make him accountable," said a protestor. The protestors said they are without electricity from last two months, and after seeing no response from any Government official during these two months today they were informed by someone in village that Lone is visiting a nearby power receiving station in connection with some work. They said that as soon as they reached Naidkhai power receiving station where Lone was present and started demanding redress to their problems, "the MLA without even inquiring about the matter asked his supporters to beat us and abuse us." "Lone crossed all limits of decency as he himself abused us and asked his supporters to beat us without having any mercy on us. We want Government to arrest him and make him accountable," they said. Despite repeated attempts, Lone could not be contacted for his comment. |
