Early Times Report JAMMU, Dec 7: Some police officers, whose names are alleged to have figured in the incidents of cattle smuggling in Jammu region, are likely to face action for indulging in unlawful activities. These officers were of the rank of SPs, DySPs and Inspectors (SHOs), police sources said, adding that all of them were alleged to have joined hands with the cattle smugglers. For facilitating their uninterrupted movement during night hours, the cattle smugglers were paying huge amounts of money to these police officers. As police were earning a bad name for their illegal acts, the police headquarters (PHQ) was likely to transfer them to the armed and IRP battalions, sources said. The cattle smugglers had developed a nexus with police from Kathua to Srinagar, sources alleged, calling for a probe into this cattle smuggling nexus involving senior police officers. Sources said PHQ, through its various agencies, had been keeping an eye on the activities of these officers. "They have brought a bad name to police and PHQ will not sit silent," the sources added. Sources said there was a need to look into the matter seriously as the issue had the potential to trigger law and order problem in the region. |
